Classes
Tucson Kids Yoga classes are inclusive, child-directed, developmentally appropriate, and fun!
In addition to yoga, there is music, mindful movement, educational facts, engaging props, non-competitive games, and more often than not, silliness and laughter. TKY instructors are committed to upholding the traditional aspects of a yoga practice while making it accessible, relatable, and enjoyable for children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Our classes are found in preschools, early childhood centers, daycares, elementary and middle schools, after school programs, community centers, and yoga studios. We are a mobile yoga studio, so we come to YOU!
Children receive many benefits from yoga, including:
Self-regulation and impulse control
Concentration and focus
Increased physical health
Further developed cognitive, social-emotional, motor, and language/communication skills
Strategies for dealing with stress, anxiety, and big emotions
Examples of inclusivity, acceptance, and compassion
A peaceful and relaxed body and mind
Toddler Classes
Toddler yoga classes are high energy, sensory-rich, repetitive, and filled with props, books, and animal sounds. We sing, dance, and always end with “yoga relaxation.” Developmental milestones are supported through age-appropriate poses and movements, identifying body parts, answering questions, and opportunities for motor planning and practicing impulse control. This age group absolutely loves yoga - clapping and cheering when it is time for yoga is not uncommon!
Preschool Classes
Children’s interests and ideas, as well as classroom themes and curriculum, are incorporated into yoga classes with preschoolers. Mindfulness practices are more prevalent and simple yogic games are introduced. In addition to yoga poses, movement, sensory exploration, laughter, and animal sounds, there is time for reflection, structured breathing practices, stillness, and longer “yoga relaxations.” Themes such as Dinosaurs, Nocturnal Animals, Things with Wings, and Peace Begins with Me are used to guide class. Preschoolers love sharing their ideas in yoga class and seeing them come alive in the theme.
School Age Classes
Elementary and middle school students crave the movement and stillness that yoga provides. After-school classes have more high energy movement and classes during the school day often have a strong mindfulness component. For older children, yoga is an opportunity for self-exploration and reflection. Classes start to resemble adult yoga classes, but with a playful vibe. Themes include Outer Space, Yoga Obstacle Course, Circus Yoga, Outer Space, Yoga Philosophy, and Attitude of Gratitude.
